A retreat for Lent:
Make some space to develop your relationship with God this Lent. Sign up for our Diocesan ‘retreat at home’ called “Saving Grace”. Every week you will receive an email with links to a 25minute video in which our Archbishop John will introduce the theme and the reading, Chris Chapman will deliver the retreat, with others contributing. You will also receive materials to use in your own prayer and reflection. All you have to have to do is sign up and then set aside what space you can for Saving Grace!
I am writing on behalf of the Diocesan Spirituality Commission with details of the 2022 Southwark Diocesan Retreat for Lent, called “Saving Grace”.
The retreat is all ready and prepared for you to offer to your parishioners. They can then register, receive weekly materials by email and undertake a retreat ‘at home’.
The materials are also printable and parishioners can take them home.
We found last year, that many people enjoyed talking about the materials and journeying together. So there are two further options:
- your parish may wish to run a weekly group in order to develop a ‘retreat within the parish’ – there are group leader materials available to assist you or a group leader you
- or there will be an option for some online groups that people can join when they sign up.
All who sign up will receive retreat materials by email each week during Lent and Easter. They can then watch the videos whenever they want. Archbishop John will introduce the theme and the reading, Chris Chapman will deliver the retreat, aided by members of the Commission. Ideas for prayer and reflection will be provided for the week. Participants are encouraged to set aside the necessary time for prayer.
The retreat was a new venture last year, and over 1000 people signed up to receive the weekly email, with over 1500 watching the weekly videos. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with many people saying they had not done a retreat since school and others commenting how wonderful it was to get to know Archbishop John through his involvement in the retreat.
I attach further information for parishes and a publicity flyer.

New Evangelization Summit – 28 April 2018
The New Evangelization Summit is an annual event hosted in Ottawa, Canada and streamed to venues across North America. This year, for the first time, the event will be shown via video link in both Australia and in the UK, at the Centre for Catholic Formation, Tooting Bec, on Saturday 28 April 2018 (9.30am to 9.30pm). Tickets are £30 and include two meals and printed literature. To book visit www.ccftootingbec.org.uk/nes2018
NB This event would be excellent for members of parish evangelization teams, parish pastoral council members and others keen to explore how to share the faith. Canada, like the UK, is increasingly secularised and the wisdom of the speakers will be very fruitful. A preview video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTzSgk2T3cI
